THE 25th Sticklepath Fireshow, say its organisers, promises to be 'the biggest and brightest blast the Dartmoor village has ever seen.

The Bonfire Night spectacular at Finch Foundry, Field, on Wednesday, November 5 will be an extravaganza of stages, costumes and pyrotechnics.

Fiona Reddaway, one of the show committee, said: 'We aim to outdo former shows, but for their quarter-century, the organisers are promising that the 2008 show "Guy's Impossible Dream" will really be a spectacle to remember.

'As always, the theme of the show will remain a closely-guarded secret until the lights go up on November 5, but artistic director Hilary Gillespie has hinted that the audience should expect a celebratory extravaganza.

Fireshow was first conceived in 1984, when South Zeal and District Youth Club, Wren Music and Sticklepath Sports Club plotted to hold a 'fireworks display with a difference'.

Since then, with the help of numerous other organisations and local businesses, plus generations of volunteers, the event has grown into one of the biggest community arts event in the South West — with an annual cast, costume team and stage crew numbering up to 200 members of the local community and an audience of 3,000.

Advance tickets for the anniversary show are available from the village shops in South Zeal and Sticklepath, or from Donald's Menswear and the Flower Pot in Okehampton.

Tickets cost £6 for adults and £2 for children. There will be some tickets available on the night for which early arrival is advised.

The gates open at Finch Foundry in Sticklepath at 6pm with the performance starting at 7.30pm. Limited free parking will be available near the site, but spectators are encouraged to use the free return shuttle bus that will be running from Okehampton every 15 minutes from 6.15pm, with pick-up points at Martin's newsagents on Fore Street and at the Giblands bus stop. Refreshments will be available at the show.

Alcohol and fireworks (including sparklers) are not allowed on the site, and all children must be accompanied by an adult ticket-holder.
