REMEMBRANCE Sunday in Okehampton once again saw a great turnout with the Royal British Legion being joined by 60 members of 47 Regiment Royal Artillery.
Young and old turned out to show their respect and support for the troops, which included boys and girls of the Cadet Forces and Scout movement, as well as the mayor, town council, police and fire department.
A large crowd attended the short service of remembrance held at the war memorial, while the parish church was full for the hour-long service.
Several members of the contingent were royally entertained at the legion's social club after the parade, where young and old exchanged stories and experiences.
This year, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal raised in excess of £12,000, beating the £11,600 raised last May.
Poppy Appeal organiser Valerie Hoar said: 'I am absolutely delighted with the amount that has been raised. With everything that is going on with the credit crunch we weren't expecting to raise that much, I was quite surprised.
'The support has been absolutely fantastic. We get to see where the funding goes and it really does make a difference.'
