Adult learners across Devon are celebrating their GCSE results today, thanks to Learn Devon, the county council’s adult education service. Offering free courses in English and Maths, Learn Devon has supported hundreds of learners in achieving qualifications that can open doors to further education and employment.
Among those celebrating is Roseanna who achieved a grade 7 in English. “I’m feeling really happy,” she said. “Glad it’s over, but the course was great. I’m doing an Access Course now and hope to study Nursing at university next year.”
Finlay earned a grade 5 in English and 4 in Maths, crediting his success to “a bit of studying and lots of help from my tutor.” Maria, who scored a 5 in Maths, said she became “obsessed” with the subject and praised her tutor Cheryl for her support.
Natalia passed both subjects, achieving a 6 in English and 7 in Maths. “I had an amazing experience,” she said. “My tutor Sara made studying feel individual even though I was part of a group.”
Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, congratulated learners: “It takes a lot of hard work and commitment, so it’s a proud moment and a great achievement. It’s never too late to study.”
Learn Devon offers more than 100 courses, including Digital Skills, ESOL, and Skills for Work. New GCSE courses begin in September and January.
