AN Okehampton Primary School pupil has gone back to the chess board to practise for his next sporting challenge – a UK competition final to be held in either London or Manchester next month.
Year six pupil Alfie Jose qualified for the Delancey UK school Challenge where 40,000 young players competed for 1,000 places open for selection for the Gigafinal in July.
Alfie secured his place after securing second place at the Megafinal held in Brixham, South Devon, on June 10. He played against the best chess players from schools and clubs across the region.
