ON Saturday the Columbines were on fine form from the starting whistle, with Kim Davey scoring a beautiful goal on her reverse stick in a matter of minutes.

This was followed by some excellent defending by Laura Parsons, Joey Drake and Nicky Pedrick, who were forced to work hard to maintain their advantage after visiting team Dart started to fight back.

Oke goalkeeper Alice Wiseman made a series of superb saves to keep the score in the home side’s favour. Despite many runs up the wings by Emily Rowlands, Okehampton did not score again in the first half and entered half-time with a 1-0 lead.

As the second half began, captain Sophie Whitely connected well with midfielders Hannah Gibbons, Elly Jenkins and Molly Marvin, working together to pass the ball up the pitch. Here, Hannah Whitely and Lesley Bingham read the game excellently and Whitely scored Oke’s second goal.

However, Dart returned with renewed vigour, forcing Pedrick to make an exceptional defensive run and return the ball to Dalton, who managed to gain a short corner. This culminated in a fabulous strike by Parsons, resulting in Okehampton’s third goal and bringing the final score to 3-0.
