ON Saturday at Okehampton Golf Club the first of the men's four ball better ball open competitions was contested.

Under blue skies and sunshine a large group of men from many different clubs took part but the overall winners with 45 points were Ashley Arscott and Alex Green from Okehampton Golf Club.

Second overall were Steve Browne and Neil Edworthy also from Okehampton with 44 points and third were David Williams and Trevor Parker with 41 points.

First visitor's prize went to Pete Clark and Andy Martin from Frome Golf Club with 40 points with T Patrick and N Oliver from China Fleet second. Best combination prize was awarded to Matt Flavin and Martin Moxey from Okehampton and Downes Crediton with 41 pts.

The Ladies of Okehampton Golf Club played their qualifier for the Ping four ball better ball final on Wednesday with Maureen Willcocks and Doris Jewell winning with 37 points. Second were Marcia Guy and Sue Stanbury with 34 followed by Lin Atkinson and Mary Keir with 33 points.

The Ladies' President Cup team had a good home win against Tiverton at home winning 5 ½ matches to 1 ½.
