ANOTHER excellent year of netball in Okehampton has come to a close. On May 21 the league held its annual meeting and presentation evening at Okehampton Rugby Club, chaired by Sue Manners.

Two umpiring evenings were held this season, which encouraged more people to have a go at umpiring; the league hosted another C award umpiring course this year and it was great to see younger players stepping up to umpire.

Walking netball sessions have on average 16 ladies each week and lots of fun is had by all.  There were 19 teams in the league this year which were split into three divisions.

Awards: Division one winners Falcons, runners up Dodgers; umpires’ player of the year Sadie Ash and players’ player of the year Katie Jones.

Division two winners Bradford Belles, runners up Jets; umpires’ player of the year Molly Miners and players’ player of the year Hayley Frayn. Division three winners Wild Cats, runners up Bluebirds; umpires’ player of the year Vanessa Garrett and players’ player of the year Jenny Turnbull and Sophie Roberts.

Chair Sue Manners said: ‘There is lots to look forward to in the coming months; registration evening for the next season will be Tuesday, June 26 in the Hub at 6.30pm; if anyone would like to enter a team please just turn up on the night or contact OCRA who can pass on your details.’

The league will be running a summer league on Tuesdays at 7pm from June 5 in Parklands.
