Speedwells netball team held a celebration/farewell party at Okehampton Golf Club on Saturday evening.

The team started in the mid 1970s with six Okehampton College members of staff and one Year 11 student. There has been a team in the Okehampton League ever since and for many years they played in the Exeter League.

The team has changed many times over the years with their longest serving player,

Angela Herrod-Taylor starting in 1983 and playing until the end of the 2017/18 season.

Unfortunately for Speedwells, due to various comittments of the players there were not enough members to enter a team in the league this season.

Spokesperson Angela said: ‘With so many good times and happy memories, Speedwells wanted to celebrate the ‘Speedwell Years’ with past and present players.

‘Two players from the original team were able to attend along with best wishes sent from some of those who couldn’t.

‘It was a very enjoyable evening although a little sad that the team has had to fold after 42 years.’
