A LARGE field entered Okehampton Golf Club’s first seniors open of the year earlier this month.
The format was a three ball two to count Stableford and the overall winners were P Tregellas, J Davies and T Barrett (Teign Valley/Teignmouth) with 73 points. Best combination prize was won by I Caws, D Jones and J Sharpe (Oke/Credition) with 68pts and best home team comprised of B Willcocks, T Boswell and D Warren with 69pts.
On Saturday a four ball better ball Stableford for the Barnes Cup was held. The winners of division one and The Barnes Cup were Stuart Tolley and Rob Camies with 48pts.
Second place went to Del Owen and Graham Moysey with 47 pts and Kevin Perryman and Steve Rice were third with 46pts. Division two was won by Paul and Michael MacDonald with 45pts. David and Ben Ford were second with 42pts on the back nine from, in third Ted Boswell and Ray Stevens.
A successful day was had by the club junior Basil Steer team comprising of Peter Howell, Jay Carroll and Henry Harbron who came through the first round against Tiverton.
With the games all square after the first two matches Henry held his nerve and his putt to clinch victory on the first extra hole.
On Wednesday the ladies played an individual Stableford competition and the winner of the silver division was Abby Turner with 33 points after countback from, in second, Francis Harbron. Third place was awarded to Marcia Jones with 31 pts. The bronze division was won by Maggie Caws with 32pts on the back nine from, in second Maureen Willcocks also on 32pts and Mary Keir was third with 27pts.
