FORGET Europe’s success against the USA in the Ryder Cup – what a tremendous week for Okehampton Golf Club!
The Devon Golf Ladies Club Champions Final was held at Woodbury Park on Sunday and many congratulations to Abby Turner of Okehampton who scored a creditable second with a gross 81 nett 78, only three shots behind the overall winner.
On Friday the Okehampton ladies president’s team together with caddies and supporters travelled to Tiverton for the finals of the County President’s Trophy which had 27 teams in the divisional stages.
After some real battles in the quarter and semi-final rounds Okehampton were now up against the ladies from Ilfracombe. It was always going to be a tough match with some extremely close games, but after a nail-biting finish Okehamptons ‘Lilac Ladies’ won by four matches to three to win the President’s Trophy.
On Sunday, after a tense wait for the outcome of the other matches, Okehampton Dartmoor League squad became league champions. Well done to Captain Paul Prouse, his vice-captain Barry Down and all the team for a great season.
The club have also hosted the last of our Mixed Open Competitions for this year and the overall winners were Pete Freeman and Jan Sweetman from Portmore with 43pts and in second place Mick Curran and Maggie Caws from Okehampton with 41pts.
The first visitor prize was awarded to Richard Mallabone and Karen Thomas from Portmore with 40pts after count back placing Brian Newman and Hayley Carpenter in second.
On Saturday a three ball two to count Stableford was held and the winners of division one with 86pts were Colin Cornwall, Kevin Pedrick and Harry Hawking. Division two was won by Richard Johnson, David Stanbury and Pete Grant with 77pts.
