IN idyllic conditions Okehampton Golf Club hosted on April 7 a Ladies’ Texas Scramble Spring Open, which was represented by no fewer than 21 different clubs.
The overall winners with nett 63 were Marcia Collett, Marcia Jones and Mary Keir from Okehampton and in second were G Redman, J Vlietstra and B Meeke (Exeter Golf and Country Club) with nett 64.4.
The best visitor prize was won by F Ryan, L Davis and G Mason with nett 64.8 (Staddon Heights) and second visitor prize went to L Moore, K Sheills and C Lewis with nett 64.8 (Stockwood/ I O Wedmore).
The best combination prize was taken by L Evans, M Widdows (Okehampton) and C Skrzypczak (Holsworthy) with nett 64.4.
On Saturday, once again in fabulous sunshine, a three-ball two to count Stableford for the John Norman Trophy was contested.
The winners of division one and the trophy with 109 points were Andy and Matthew Parry and Jonathan Mansell.
Malcolm Hooper, Paul Rattenbury and Reg Prescott were second with 107pts and third place was taken by Norman Heslop, Reggie Wonnacott and Richard Heslop with 104pts.
Division two was won by Steve Browne, Brian May and Steve Pike with 91pts after countback from, in second Ian Drayner, Kevin Harding and Alan Grimshaw, also with 91pts, closely followed into third by John Haley, Paul Douglas and Rod Jones with 90pts.
Congratulations go to Peter Howell, Jay Carroll and Henry Harbron – Okehampton’s junior team, who beat Honiton in the first round of the Basil Steer Trophy at Exeter.
