A SUPERB Two Castles Challenge event was held this weekend with 234 competitors playing 36 holes in immaculate conditions at Okehampton and Launceston Golf Clubs.

The successful event ended with prize giving in the evening at Okehampton where awards were given for the various different categories. The winners of the scratch 36 hole category were Ed Jenkins and Jake Cox from Portmore Golf Club with 72 points and the winners of the 36 hole handicap category were Arnie Searle and Kevin Cornwall from Okehampton with 89pts.

Allen and Penny Deakin from Okehampton won the 36 hole mixed category with 79pts and the single sex category was won by Dave Goldsworthy and Paul Hoskin from Tehidy Golf Club with 85pts.

The ladies’ section entered the Bowmaker three ball two to count qualifier where the winners go on to play in the finals which will be held at Saunton Golf Club later in the year.

In the winning team with 80 points were Sue Stanbury, Doris Jewell and Pam Jarman and closely following in second place were Cherry James, Sue Williams and Penny Deakin with 79pts.

Organisers thanked both teams including the professionals, catering and office staff at Okehampton and Launceston Golf Clubs for making this event so successful and to the Oke greenkeepers who had a rather early 4am start!

They also thanked volunteers Brian Willcocks, George James, Colin Beardwell, Stuart Wilson and David Warren.

The Seniors’ June Individual Stableford was won by Steve Raine with an impressive 44pts, six clear of the four runners-up John Haley, Barry Ratcliffe, Chris Askew and Vic Marks.

Steve, Barry and Vic go forward to represent the section in the DMGVA Millenium Trophy competition at Holsworthy in August.
