IT was another successful day on Friday for Okehampton Golf Club ladies at the County Bowmaker. They finished the season on a high by winning the top spot and the silverware once again.

The winning team of Janice Thwaites, Abby Turner and Michelle Widdows scored an excellent 80 points; the runners-up were Cherry James, Penny Deakin and Carol Skrzypczak with 69 points also from Okehampton.

The club congratulated Michelle Widdows with her first ‘hole in one’ on the seventh. In total 105 ladies from across the county to enjoyed the course.

Sixteen-year-old Peter Howell from Okehampton Golf Club played for Exeter Golf Academy on October 5 in a National Golf Academy scratch qualifying competition at Mendip Springs near Bristol. He shot two over gross 72 to qualify to represent the South West Golf Academies at the national finals next year.

On Saturday a three ball, two to count, Stableford competition was held at Okehampton and the winners of division one were Paul Skidmore, Richard Reid and Alan Mann with 81 points. Second place was taken by Phil Jones, Bob Camies and Gareth Holt with 74pts and Martin O’Connor, Barry Coaker and Jerry Lock were third with 73pts after count back.

Division two was won by Norman Heslop, John Halliday and Reg Wonacott with 78pts on the back nine from, in second John Haley, Paul Douglas and Matt Parry. James Stacey, Simon James and Steve Mander were third with 74pts.
