LAST weekend saw the launch of the Two Castles Challenge.
This is to be an annual four ball better ball competition played over two days at Okehampton and Launceston golf courses.
With the sun shining and both courses in superb condition it produced an exciting weekend of golf.
The winners of the scratch (36 holes) were K Hancock and R Jasper from Launceston with 77 points. Second with 70pts were A Hughes and M Hughes from Exminster and third with 67 pts were P Rattenbury and M Soby from Okehampton.
The winners of the handicap competition were J Parry (The Bedford) and P Dunsford (West Maling) with 80 pts on the back 18 from in second, A Grimshaw (Okehampton) and N Redman (Bovey Castle); third place went to Chris Hurley and Martin Cox (Okehampton) with 79 pts. The winners of the mixed competition were Mr and Mrs N Atkinson (Okehampton) with 79pts followed by Mr and Mrs A Deakin also from Okehampton with 73pts. The event culminated with the prize giving at Okehampton Golf Club.
The ladies' section at Oke GC played the County Bowmaker qualifier. The winning team of Cherry James, Mary Keir and Doris Jewell scored 82 Stableford points.
The team will hopefully go forward to the final which will be played at East Devon GC on the October 3 together with the captain's choice team of Jane Warren, Lin Atkinson and Penny Deakin who get automatic entry.
