IN division one this week of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League Okehampton A were at home to North Wyke, who found John Squire, Steve Tyler and Steve Madge in top form and ran out 10-0 winners.
In division two, Moretonhampstead played Okehampton E. Roni Gallardo beat Ken Underhill 11-8, 5-11, 15-13, 9-11, 11-4. James May levelled against Will Ash. Morgan Holt put Oke back in the lead against Richard Underhill. Gallardo won her second against May to put Okehampton 3-1 ahead and went on to complete a fine maximum. Ken Underhill and May both scored two singles each and beat Gallardo and Ash in the doubles for a 5-5 draw.
The next match saw a young Milton Abbot team play Horrabridge B. Milton Abbot raced into a 3-0 lead before Myles Pinkney saved the whitewash, beating Michael Blatchford 8-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-3. Milton Abbot went on to win the next five singles with Tom Doidge and George Anderson both securing maximums and taking the doubles against Matthew Dowie and Pinkney for a convincing 9-1 win.
Gunnislake B played Horrabridge A. Brendon Stewart won the first against Penny O’Neill and went on to score a fine maximum. Ptolemy Beman pulled one back for Gunnislake, beating Sue Colridge in straight sets and also won his second against James Emony but lost his final game in a hard fought 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 4-11 against Stewart. O’Neill beat Colridge but Horrabridge won the doubles for a convincing 7-3 win.
Milton Abbot were at home to Gunnislake A. Tom Doidge beat Michael Kinger in straight sets to put Milton Abbot 1-0 ahead and went on to score his fifth maximum of the season. Jack Flockton levelled against George Anderson, taking the fourth set 13-11. Gunnislake won the next two, Michael Alexander beat Michael Blatchford and Kinger beat Anderson. With the score at 3-4, Blatchford did well to beat Kinger in a tight 16-14, 4-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9 to level the scores. Doidge made it 5-4 and joined Anderson in the doubles to beat Kinger and Flockton for a 6-4 win for Milton Abbot.
In the last match, Moretonhampstead played Gunnislake B. In a hard fought first, Richard Underhill beat Penny O’Neill 7-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-9. Ptolemy Beman beat James May to level at 1-1. Moretonhampstead took the next two with Ken Underhill beating Ryan Taylor and May beating O’Neill.
Taylor then beat Richard Underhill and Beman levelled at 3-3 beating Ken Underhill 11-6 in the fifth leg. Moretonhampstead won the next two before Richard Underhill lost to Beman 11-8 in the fifth, giving Beman a fine maximum. Ken Underhill and May won the doubles against Beman and Taylor for a 6-4 win for Moretonhampstead in what was an enjoyable evening.
