Okehampton ladies’ firsts 2
Exe ladies’ thirds 2
THE game was lively from the start with both teams putting in a strong effort. From the offset Okehampton captain Sophie Whiteley, Molly Marvin, and Lesley Bingham took control of the midfield, carefully distributing the ball to the other players.
The wide players, Anna Speak and Elsa Frangleton, kept great width to the game, cleverly anticipating play and intercepting passes. The committed play from the Okehampton side led to their first goal, but not without constant pressure from their opposition.
Player of the match Lesley Bingham passed a strong ball across the pitch into the attacking D, which was skillfully controlled and guided straight into the goal by Emily Rowlands.
Both sides showed great commitment and want for the ball, causing a few injuries along the way but all in good spirits.
Exe thirds returned the pressure on Okehampton and through great co-ordination from Laura Parsons the team were able to hold them off.
Abi Colton, Nicky Pedrick, and Amanda Sim worked tirelessly in defence to keep the ball away from the goal; intercepting early and making tackles.
The persistence of Exe, however, found a break, managing to squeeze the ball over the line.
After half time Okehampton were ready to go again. Hannah Whiteley worked making great spaces up front creating opportunities for the team to score.
With the hard work short corners were awarded with Kim Davey and Anna Speak carrying out a smooth one-two to score a second goal for Oke.
Exe continued to fight back and once again pressured Oke’s defence. Goalkeeper Alice Wiseman held her own and cleared some great balls from the goal, tactically passing them wide to the team.
Despite the efforts a short corner was awarded to Exe and they took a good hit, which went in by the post.
