Okehampton 3

Torbay 0

Okehampton faced Torbay for their last friendly before the competitive season. The team were looking for a strong performance but did not start in the best way.

The opening ten minutes saw the home side lose possession on a number of occasions as Torbay pressed for an early goal. However, once regaining composure through more stability at the back with Rob Hall and James Rogers, the home side were allowed to press forward using the outlets of man of the match Ross Davidson and Simon Bourne on either side.

As the half progressed the Oke midfield three of Nick Luxton, Luke Miller and Joff Stephens began to link up play nicely, sweeping up the field and creating a number of scoring opportunities for wingers Jack Watson and Brett Lawson. While the home side failed to finish any of these chances, they were now in the ascendency with striker Sam Whalley running riot up front.

It was not long before Okehampton got themselves the opener following some great build up play, seeing Miller net the first of the day. Before the half time whistle Okehampton continued to press, failing to convert any of their short corners, going into the break 1-0 up.

The second half saw Okehampton pick up where they left off, driving forwards again through the excellent work of Luxton.

The pressure eventually told as Miller got his second goal of the day and gave Okehampton a lead of 2-0.

The away side came out slightly more after the second goal, but the great defence of the home team proved too good for any attack thrown their way. Goalkeeper George Morgan had little to do all game but, when called into action, produced some top saves to keep the two goal lead intact.

Towards the end of the match, Torbay began to tire and the home side used this to press late on to allow Miller to bag his hat-trick and fourth goal of the season so far.

In all it was a comfortable 3-0 win for Okehampton, giving them great momentum going into their first league game of the season.
