Devon seconds D West Chagford seconds v Ashburton seconds IT was a fine all round performance by visiting Ashburton skipper Chris Yeo who followed his 32 runs with the bat with three important wickets — accounting for both of the Chagford opening batsmen. This plus a hard hitting 78 by Ashburton number three Martin Causey was the main contributor in a 113 victory by the visitors at Chagford in this Devon league match. Winning the toss  and fielding, Chagford were hampered early as three players were delayed in traffic and took the field with only eight men.  There was an early wicket as Nick Yersley was run out for four with the score at 11, but  George Marshall and Causey settled down against the accurate Chagford attack of Nigel Letheren and Liam Bradbury. Marshall was bowled by Whittingham for 35 with the score at 61 but danger man Causey stood firm with partnerships with Chris Yeo (32), Jeffrey Crouch (30) before Causey departed for 78, and Ashburton were all out for 234 in the last of the 45 overs.   Rhys Holland (3-55) and Chris Mount (3-31) were the main wicket takers, but  pick of the bowlers was Nigel Letheren who bowled line and length and fully justified his figures of nine overs with five maidens and conceding just 12 runs in his two spells — it was unfortunate that the other Chagford bowlers could not replicate this.   On this excellent batting track, this should not have been a fomidable target, but although Roger Whittingham and Richard Sampson had an opening stand of 45, before Sampson went for 13, Whittingham followed for top score of 26. In form batsman Chris Mount soon followed when he was run out for 13 and only Bradbury of the rest with 10 made double figures. With wickets falling at regular intervals Chagford were all out for a disappointing 119 to give Asburton a deserved victory by 115 and 20 points with Chagford on 6pts.
