Devon two
Tamar Saracens 7
North Tawton 10
FOLLOWING torrential rain on Friday night the Tamar Saracens pitch was to a little sticky. Peter Wonnacott led from the front as Tamar put Tawton under immense pressure for the first 15 minutes.
Giving away too many penalties Tawton eventually gave away one too many and with a good set move Tamar flanker went over for the first try which was converted. This seemed to galvanise Tawton and although they did not often get out of their half they kept Tamar at bay with excellent tackling from forwards and backs alike.
The second half saw a big swing in fortune with Tawton consistently getting into Tamar's half. Tamar started to give away penalties as the pressure mounted and deft passing by scrum half Bill Sharp saw Cameron Rickerby dance his way over for Tawton's first try, which Chris Martin duly converted. With the score 7-7 the final quarter of the match was an end to end affair as both teams pushed for the win. Chris Martin had the chance of a penalty kick which he took well under pressure. Tamar then camped on Tawton's five metre line for the last ten minutes of the game and although they had several chances of drawing the game they were unable to take the chances.
There was fine and determined tackling from North Tawton players with special mention to William Lethbridge and Alfie May.
