Exeter Saracens seconds 26

North Tawton 52

NORTH Tawton fielded a team containing several changes for this non-league fixture against Saracens. The front row for Tawton resumed their strong form and anchored the scrum in another dominating performance in an eight try win.

An early attack by Tawton led to an interception by Saracens which called for a try-saving tackle by full back Liam Wilkins. They got the next one right however and put left wing Julian Rice over in the corner. David Fewings converted from wide out.

Good lineout ball by Aaron Hart set up a driving maul and pressure by Tawton on the Sarries. The ball was lost and a breakout by Sarries' wing outflanked the defence and gave a try to the supporting centre. With the conversion they levelled the score at 7-7.

Another lineout take for Tawton was fed to the three quarters and this time it was Liam Wilkins who broke through for a try, linking well from the full back position; the conversion was missed.

Saracens responded well and ran in another try which they converted to take a brief lead at 14-12, but only for Tawton's Wilkins to reply with his second score. The conversion by Fewings took the score at half time to 19-14.

With the wind at their backs North Tawton started to exploit their advantage in the scrum. A push over try was grounded by number eight Steve King and soon afterwards second row James Henshaw broke away from a rolling maul and forced the ball to ground.

With Sarries pinned back near their line another score was inevitable- a trademark interception by outside centre David Fewings ended with him skipping through from 10 metres out. With two conversions, one from Fewings and one from scrum half Jack Phare Tawton had extended the scoreline to 38-14.

A defensive error by Tawton led to an unconverted try. Normal service was soon resumed as Fewings claimed two more tries for his hatrick; the first came off the back of a lineout with the ball fed out by Hart, the second when Tawton decided to run the ball from a penalty awarded close to Sarries' line. Both were converted, one by Fewings and the other by Wilkins, taking the score to 52-19.

To their credit Saracens never gave up and made a spirited finale as their centre broke through to intercept a lazy pass and score a last converted try giving a result of 52-26 to North Tawton.
