Tavistock Colts 8
Okehampton Colts 39
FOR this league opener Okehampton looked the more organised side.
From the Tavistock kick-off the ball was caught by May and a good phase of forward play resulted in a scrum but a Tavistock fumble gave Oke chance to intercept and work the ball out for Heard to score and Searle to convert.
Tavistock were then awarded a penalty, scored by Milligan, This was then followed by some good phases of play by both teams but Oke were the ones to secure the ball and work it down the line for Simmons to score in the corner.
The visitors scored again after a scrappy passage of play which saw Sampson squeeze over in the corner followed shortly after with Simmons going over for his second try.
Okehampton lost a line out in their own 22 allowing Fuller to crash through and score for Tavy in the closing minutes of the first half making the score 8-22.
The second half saw Tavistock more fired up and putting more pressure on Oke but within a short time Heard broke away in his own half to make a strong run down the line only to be stopped just short of the chalk but the ball was recycled for Sampson to drive over in the corner.
Okehampton were reduced to 14 players as G Baker was yellow carded for deliberate obstruction. Tavistock pressure was only relieved when the home side conceded a penalty giving Oke time to regroup. From a scrum Bickley went on a solo run through the opposition to score under the posts, which was converted by Searle.
Oke often cut out the Tavistock defence by chipping the ball over the top and on one occasion was picked up by K Lee to feed Swash to score.
This was a great game played by both teams.
