IN division one of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League, North Wyke were away to Okehampton D.
Okehampton raced into a 3-0 lead before Enrique-Cancer Barroya beat Sarah Jackson. Luke Bennett scored a fine maximum and Mari Baldwin won two singles – both of these players having moved up from division two this year. Bennett and Baldwin also won the doubles for a 8-2 win.
Last year’s division two winners, Anchorage A, played club rivals Anchorage B. Colin Brooker and Dave Wilson put the B side 2-0 ahead against Malcolm Hopkins and Colin Jones before Dave Vanstone got one back for the A side against Roger Gilbert. Brooker won his second against Jones and went on to score his maximum with Wilson scoring two and Gilbert beating Jones in four sets. Hopkins won the last singles against Wilson and joined Jones to win the doubles against Brooker and Wilson giving a final result of 6-4 to Anchorage B.
Okehampton C played Bridestowe, who went 1-0 ahead with Phil Down beating Zoe Bennett. Okehampton then stepped up a gear winning the next seven singles for a 7-1 lead with Emily Haskell and Cameron Brooking both scoring maximums. Mark Fogerty won the last singles and joined Francis Griffiths in the doubles to beat Bennett and Brooking, giving a final score of 7-3 to the Okehampton side.
The next match, Okehampton A took on Tavistock. Roger Bowkett won the first against John Squire and Angharad Beman beat Karen Stephenson to lead 2-0. Steve Madge won the next for Okehampton against Nick Davis and went on to score a fine maximum. Bowkett and Davis won the doubles against Stephenson and Madge for an honourable 5-5 draw.
In division two, Milton Abbot were away to Okehampton G. Milton Abbot raced into a 7-0 lead. Will Ash saved the whitewash when he beat George Anderson 11-8, 13-11. Tom Doidge and Tim Westcott both scored maximums. Doidge and Anderson beat Ash and Morgan Holt in the doubles for a 9-1 win.
The next match, Horrabridge A played Moretonhampstead. Horrabridge won the first three games. Crispin Jordon beat David May, Gill Northey beat James May and Brendon Seward beat Ken Underhill. David May and Underhill pulled two back against Northey and Jordon whilst Seward scored another against James May.
Moretonhampstead then stepped up a gear winning the last 3 singles and Underhill and David May won the doubles against Jordon and Northey for a 6-4 win for Moretonhamstead.
The last division two match, Gunnislake A were at home to Horrabridge B. Mike Kinger put Gunnislake 1-0 ahead against Matthew Dowie. Alex Cunningham levelled the score against Michael Alexander and Myles Pinkney beat Jack Flockton. Alexander won the next against Dowie. After losing the first two legs 14-12, 11-8 he fought back to take the next 3 11-5, 11-8, 11-3.
Kinger won the next against Pinkney and went on to complete a fine maximum. Horrabridge won the remaining singles and the doubles for a 6-4 win.
