IT has been a productive and active season at Okehampton Hockey Club.
The ladies first team played in the South division of the West Women's league for the first time this season and finished in a creditable sixth place under the leadership of Lesley Bingham. Kim Davey was voted the player of the season with Shannon Osman chosen as the most improved player and Jo Moppet being the highest goal scorer.
The ladies second team entered the West Women's league for the first time playing in Petroc two division and finishing in fourth place after playing some excellent matches. Winnie Rademaker was named player of the season with Ailsa Gibb collecting the most improved player award and Viv Weatherington scoring the most goals during the season.
The U14 girls team played in the England Hockey Development League which meant more travelling for the team but gave them the opportunity to play a good standard of hockey. All the team members improved during the season but Sophia Marshall showed her versatility and was the player of the season.
The U12 girls played in the Devon League with several new players joining the squad. Player of the season was awarded to Emily Rowlands.
The ladies club member of the year went to Viv Weatherington and the girls junior trophy was awarded to Anna Luxton.
The men's awards were presented on the same evening, and they too have had a successful season. The first team were runners-up in the Devon Trophy and were led by Mark Parsons to promotion into South division one next season. Their most improved player was Sam Whalley, and Andy Paterson was their player of the season. Second team captain Brett Lawson was voted as clubman of the year after leading the second team during the season, and Zac Middleton, after playing his first season of hockey, was voted the most improved player. The evergreen Tim Morgan was their player of the season.
A number of the junior members from the Club have progressed through the England Hockey Development system this year and gone on to represent Devon in the county tournaments. Ross Davidson and Will Cunningham won the boy's player of the season awards for the U14 and U12 boys teams, and Charlie Glanville won the boys' trophy.
