Okehampton ladies 4

Torbay 1

OKEHAMPTON hosted Torbay in a must-win game and put in a great performance to come out on top.

The hosts started strongly, with some great passing from midfield to the wing. Captain Kim Davey made a powerful run down the right wing and an accurate cross found Lesley Bingham, who was waiting on the far post for a fabulous deflection into the goal.

Torbay fought back with some good runs through the middle but the Okehampton defence held firm, preventing them from scoring.

Okehampton’s second goal came from a short corner.

Some lovely passing from Jo Moppett and Kim Davey led to creating a chance for Lesley Bingham, which she finished off.

Torbay didn’t give up and went on the attack, gaining several short corners.

Brilliant defending from Nicky Pedrick, Sophie Whiteman, Abi Colton, Kim Davey and goal keeper Alice Wiseman denied the visitors a goal.

Okehampton hit back again, producing some great midfield passing from Jess Medland, Sophie Whiteley and Molly Marvin.

The distribution out to the wings continued to be strong, with some good runs and crosses from Sophia Marshall and Anna Speak.

The third goal was born of determination when Okehampton had several shots on goal and were eventually rewarded when Jo Moppett managed to score from a rebound into the opposite corner.

The second half started well with both teams playing well. Torbay had a break through the middle and scored with a good hit from the edge of the semi-circle.

They had several short corners awarded but Okehampton defended well. Okehampton then broke away on the attack, Laura Parsons passed to Nicky Pedrick who found Kim Davey to take it down the wing.

She crossed to Jo Moppett who played the ball back to Hannah Whitely waiting on the post to get the fourth and final goal.

Next week, Okehampton travel to Bodmin to play the side that sits bottom of the league in the hope of bringing back more precious points.
