THE?Okehampton Community Recreation Association Trampoline Club topped their competition success last month, coming home with an array of medals from the Honiton and Totnes friendly competitions and the Devon Championships.
The club has been developing its competitive side and this year has started a squad to develop young athletes who want to reach a higher level in the sport.
Trampoline compe-titions require performers to do two routines before a panel of judges. The scores from the routines are then added together to form the total mark.
At the Honiton Hurricanes competition Bethany Watts won her N2 U13 class with a clear lead. In their second outing as competitors, Miya Porter and William Bridges came first and third in the NDP1 U11 class.
An unlucky extra bounce in their routines meant that Faye Pimlott finished fourth in the N3 U15 class and Harrison King came 15th in the N2 U11 category.
The Tornadoes competition in Totnes last month involved a synchronised event, an individual friendly and the Devon Championships.
For 'synchro', two competitors perform a routine at the same time on separate trampolines. Niamh Grimshaw and Harrison King won a silver medal in the club category with an excellent routine. Miya Porter and Faye Pimlott came eighth in the regional class, holding their own against older and more experienced trampolinists than themselves.
The friendly competition saw several of the children narrowly miss a place on the podium, with Benjamin Stoneman and Bethany Watts coming fourth and fifth in the N2 O10. In the NDP1 U12, Faye came fourth, Miya fifth and William ninth. Niamh came eighth in NDP 2 and Harrison came ninth in N2 U10.
The Devon Championships saw Faye come second in the NDP1 O11 class with two superb routines. Miya and William also gave excellent performances, coming fourth and fifth in the NDP1 U11.
The club is now setting its sights on the British Gymnastics regional competitions in 2015.
OTC's recreational club sessions are open to all and are held on Wednesday evenings in the Okehampton College Gym, 5-6pm, 6-7pm and 7-8pm. For more information, contact OCRA on 01837 54546.
