Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one East Totnes and Dartington 4 Okehampton Argyle 1 OKEHAMPTON's desultory end to the season continued at Totnes earlier this month. The hosts forged into a three goal lead by half-time so that despite a strong second half performance from Argyle, there was little chance of undoing the damage. It was a day when the Oke attack was unable to hold the ball up so the defence continually found it coming back at them, but having said this the passes forward were generally hopeful long balls with little purpose. Argyle fell behind on 23 minutes when a cross in from the right was misjudged by the their defence and Jamie Chamberlain fired home from 18 yards. Eight minutes later, a long free kick caught the Argyle defence asleep and Chamberlain was allowed to fire home unchallenged. Okehampton tried to come back and began to improve but the game was killed a minute before the break when Totnes were awarded a direct free kick and Miles Chalcroft scored with a tremendous drive from 30 yards, giving Craig Mulholland no chance in the Argyle goal. The second half was only a minute old when a slip by the usually reliable Tom McGratton allowed Scott Troth to run through and score a fourth for Totnes. The flood gates could have opened but with three strong substitutions Argyle began to cause Totnes some problems. Bringing Alex Wren and Benn McIvaney on into the midfield really added some bite to Argyle and adding Ed Bradshaw to the attack also unsettled Totnes. On 59 minutes, Ed Squire burst forward and played the ball to John Coakley who finished well, giving the home keeper no chance. As the game drew to a close, Bradshaw almost grabbed a second for Argyle but at this stage, there was no coming back. This result sees Argyle drop disappointingly towards the bottom three in the league but with no relegation this season, there is only pride left to play for in their remaining two games.
