THE Rock Solid Mud Race at Escot Park in East Devon is a 10K off road race with a difference in the form of 37 obstacles which the competitors have to get through, over or under. These included a high cargo net climb, crawling in cold water under barbed wire, a sand bag carry, a log carry, 10 foot walls, water cannons, squeezing through a skip filled with ice cubes to name just a few, plus loads of mud all the way round, culminating in a mile 'dash' at the end.

Four members of Okehampton Running Club were brave — or mad — enough to take on this challenge. Geoffrey Hill and Robert Kelly completed in 1hr.27.14mins. Charlotte Radnor had been a 'guinea pig' for the course prior to the event. She finished in 2.08.41 with the Lads and Ladettes — a team of 23 from the Okehampton area. Rob's wife Claire completed in 2.23.29. She declared the event to be 'very cold, very muddy, really tough but brilliant fun.'

The Mad March Hare is the first of two10K races organised by Plymouth Round Table, starting at the Speedway Track and out to Saltram House.

Gavin Punchard from ORC finished an excellent 13th overall from a field of 171. His time of 41.34 minutes earns him a silver award.
