THE Teign Valley Toddle is something of a misnomer being more than ten miles with an uphill start, a long hill in the middle and a steep uphill finish. Okehampton Running Club's Nick Seccombe finished 12th overall in 71.25.
Meanwhile Jo Camies and Cathy Carey were running in the marathon race at the first Bournemouth Marathon Festival. The route took in the Bournemouth and Boscombe piers and attracted a field of more than 4,000 from 30 different countries. Jo completed the 26.2 miles in 4.25.03 with Cathy coming in at 4.39.33 both achieving bronze uka awards for the distance.
Dave Harding, Karen McDowell, Claire Kelly and Rob Kelly were among a record breaking 14,000 runners at the Cardiff Half Marathon. With a bid lodged for the IAAF to host their World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff in 2016 the crowds came out in their thousands to support the event. Rob ran a great race to finish on 1.23.56 (silver uka), Claire 1.54.58 (bronze), Karen 2.09.18 (bronze) and Dave 2.30.57.
n DETLEF Schoenfeld was the Okehampton Running Club representative at the Enood – usually known as the Doone Run but this year run in reverse – hence the name!
Starting at Lynton in North Devon, this is a beautiful but tough off road ten miler with a stiff climb out of the town, narrow cliff paths with a perilously steep drop into the sea below, through the Valley of the Rocks, climbing even higher above Lynton before dropping back to the finish.
Detlef enjoyed the challenge and put in a good run to finish in 1hr 38 mins 32secs.
The winner of the club trophy given every three months was Anne Binns. Anne has made great progress since joining ORC and always runs and trains with great determination. She took part in two of the Club's fell races, also the tough Sticklepath Horsehoe run ignoring the adverse conditions that day, and followed up with a second half marathon PB this year at Bristol.
After the success of last year, the Red Rooster Ceilidh band were invited back again to entertain the ORC with another evening of lively dancing. A good time was had by all with half the proceeds going to the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group who have been a great support at the club races.
