THE 2012 four day Devon County Open 10m air rifle and air pistol meeting, incorporating the South West Championships was hosted by Okehampton Smallbore Club at their indoor range last week.

It was attended by shooters from all over the region and as far as Wales and Southampton. A junior competition (under 18s) for both disciplines attracted 11 entries. The Devon champion for air pistol was Nigel Dudley from the Exeter Club of Fonthill. Nigel was also the South West champion and his Fonthill Team became the overall top scoring air pistol team. The junior winner was Miss P Bale of the Braunton club. In the air rifle section, Alex Covey from Tiverton become the South West champion. Dean Bale from Braunton won both the Devon and Championships while his Braunton team took the overall air rifle team title.

Di Johnson, the Okehampton Shooting Club secretary, said: 'We were very pleased with the number of entries as, along with all activities, the cost of travelling has affected entries from further afield in recent years. It is testament to the welcome and organisation at the club that so many competitors are willing to travel so far to compete in our competitions.'

The club thanked the volunteers from the OSC, who ensured the four day event ran smoothly, organiser and stats officer Yvonne Rendle, scorers Pat and Paul Batten and range officer Bernard Rendle.
