IT was a wet and windy at Cadover Bridge on Saturday for the Dragonforce Class races, hosted by Dartmoor Model Boat Club.
The Dragonforce DF65 races saw a total of 10 skippers and boats. The wind was near the ‘top end’ value for the A rigs, and the course was a short triangular one, with a combined start and finish line set as near as possible to 90 degrees to the wind.
Four new skippers took part, three visiting skippers and one new member of the DMBC. The wind was gusting hard during the third and fourth races, with some boats being laid flat. The wind changed to a more westerly direction, causing the race officer to change the course.
A total of eight races were run, instead of the usual 16, but with the wind now nearly at gale force and too much for the B rigs, and the rain increasingly heavy, the decision to call it a day was taken.
Results: 1, Paul Newman, sail number 45, DMBC, 9 points; 2, Neil Harvey, no 308, DMBC, 17pts; 3, Steve Watts, no 383, DMBC, 21 pts.
Also competing were John Endicott, David Brook, Keith Simmons and Peter Knightley (DMBC) and visitors, George Simmons, Kim Vasey, Joe Welland and Luke Allen. The race officers were John Kiff, and recorder Kevin Boyd.
