OKEHAMPTON Hockey Club in conjunction with OCRA hosted a Quicksticks festival recently at Okehampton College.

More than 160 children attended the day taking part in a number of skill related tasks before playing small games of hockey.

The participating schools were Boasley Cross, Bridestowe, Chagford, Exbourne Lydford, Hatherleigh, Northlew, North Tawton, South Tawton and Okehampton.

Richard Jones, on behalf of the organisers, said: ‘It is fantastic to have so many children out here enjoying hockey, some of whom have never held a stick before today.

‘We also have a lot of our younger club members out here helping and encouraging the children and also umpiring the games. With a bit of luck it will encourage some more children to come along to our Saturday morning hockey club as well.’
