A RECORD number of runners turned out for the 12th Peter Tavy Plod on Bank Holiday Monday.
Setting the scene for the main race was a junior run over one mile. A great spectacle ensued with children ranging from three upwards charging around the course and gleefully collecting their medals and goody bags.
The main event over the challenging course saw James Baker from Chichester victorious, falling just short of the course record. He was followed home by Andrew Jordan from Plymouth Harriers with Marc Smerdon making up the podium.
In the ladies race Sam Lake of Bere Alston Trekkers (BATS) prevailed by just 2 seconds over Jane Allison of Plymouth.
The BATS had 17 entrants in total. Sam was first home for the team — first home for the men and fifth overall was Nathan Newton who still had plenty left in the tank even after cycling into the event from Bere Alston.
The team also saw a number of personal bests including Hilary and Martin Head and Mel Greaves who produced a great sprint finish paced in with Simon Glossop.
Plod organisers Dave and Louisa Chanter said: ‘The event continues to grow and thanks goes to the Peter Tavy Inn, I Love Candy, Kountry Kit, Francis Dix and family and of course all the runners, without whom there would be no event.’
