North Tawton 20

Okehampton seconds 7

AFTER a well presented lunch for past players and sponsers alike a good crowd of around 125 were treated to a decent game of rugby served up by both teams on the back pitch.

North Tawton fielding a full strength side with just a couple of faces missing and soon took the game to the visitors. They kept the ball in hand and made some good metres towards the Oke try line and a well worked try by Matty Dennis was added to with a conversion by Alex Dennis to give the home team a 7-0 lead.

Okehampton had not come to make the numbers up and they soon hit back with a try of their own to level the score. From there on all the go forward rugby came from North Tawton. They were rewarded with a second try from Matty Dennis with the kick this time by Craig Dennis restores the lead to seven points; a penalty also added took the half time score to 17-7 to the home side.

The second half saw more of the same and try as they might Okehampton could not get any real time on the ball. Another penalty by Tawton’s Alex Dennis took the game further away from the visitors at  20-7 as the home side were looking every inch the division two champions.

While only three points were scored in the second half it was no less entertaining than the first with some good natured banter between the crowd.
