NORTH TAWTON 16

LANNER 10

A DEPLETED North Tawton side entertained Cornish side Lanner who travelled up to Taw Meadows with the bare 15.

It was the visitors, taking advantage of the home side taking longer to settle, who struck first with a good run down the club house side and a few missed tackles by the home defence to put on the scoreboard inside five minutes.

The home team started to get a handle on their new look line-up and bit by bit took the game to the Cornish men and soon had points of their own on the board in the shape of a penalty from Gary Sizmur to make it 3-7.

North Tawton started to get some momentum with their quick line breaks and off loading and on the 30 minute mark some quality passing involving forwards and backs, resulted in Bill Sharp going over for a try; Gary Sizmur added the conversion to put North Tawton 10-7 up at half-time.

Lanner come out in the second half fired up to be next to score knowing their lighter team wanted to move the ball around and avoid too much scrum time and it was the away side who scored first in the half with a penalty make it level pegging at 10-10.

However, North Tawton were getting the better ball and the better of the exchanges putting Lanner under pressure, leading to two penalties for the home team and a yellow card for the Cornish. Both penalties by Sizmur gave North Tawton a 16-10 a well deserved victory for the newly promoted side which keeps them in middle table at this stage of the season. Man of the match was Jack Phare.
