Okehampton U14s 10

HAVING not played for more than three weeks, Oke U14s welcomed Kingsbridge at Oaklands Park for what they knew would be a tight, physical battle.

After a fairly even first five minutes, Okehampton opened the scoring, utilising a quick penalty advantage ball cross field to see Daniel Tomkins touchdown in the corner.

The forwards scrummaged and rucked well, creating opportunities for the backs but staunch defence from Kingsbridge kept Oke out until the end of the first half, when a quick ball out from the scrum was passed back inside to Barnaby Waddell who crossed the line and touched down.

The second half brought more of the same, with Kingsbridge creating openings but denied any points by superb defence from Okehampton.

In his first game for Okehampton, Joshua Ley, acquitted himself well in the pack, with Cole Pengelly, Matthew Denning, Jack Rutley, Jordan Hill and Charlie Glanville working hard all around the pitch, despite the tiring sticky mud under foot.

This was an entertaining game which saw Okehampton with a well deserved win to take them into the Christmas break.

Kingsbridge U12s 85

Okehampton U12s 0

HAVING made the long drive down to Kingsbridge, Okehampton met the well drilled opposition with the same determination and drive the visitors have come to expect from them.

Despite the scoreline Okehampton can be complimented as a team because they never gave up.

During the match despite Kingsbridge racking up the tries one after the other, there were excellent demonstrations of how to tackle well by Oke’s Alex, Cameron, Elliott, Ethan, Matt and Jacob.

Despite the Kingsbridge team being well disciplined there were moments of excellence from Oke in trying to score. Ethan was superb with his running and trying to intercept the ball. Isaac, Marcus, Sam and Tom continued to pressurise the opposition with their fine display of tackling and rucking.

The team tried numerous times to break down the opposition with some good passing from Jacob, Marcus and Aedan. Tyler and Luca too showed some great supportive play.

Tavistock U11s 55

Teignmouth U11s 25

IN a game of four quarters Tavistock got off to a super start when Luke broke away on the half way line to score the first of his five tries.

Strong defence with impeccable tackling from Ben and Callum kept the visitors off the scoreboard.

Ben was rewarded with Tavistock’s second try and shortly afterwards Luke put another over the line. A superb pass from Dylan to Matthew led to Tavistock’s fourth and the home team entered the second quarter in buoyant mood.

Unfortunately for Tavistock their new players lost focus in the second quarter and a lack of defence let the visitors quickly level the score.

Quarter three brought Tavistock’s  attacking play back; a beautifully placed pass by Sam found Mac who ran into the corner for a fifth Tavistock try. Luke, Matthew, Dylan, Christopher  and Callum kept up the pressure with good tackling and Luke’s swerving body work brought him three tries in quick succession.

The final quarter brought more defensive excellence from the home team, only allowing Teignmouth a single try.

Tavistock’s victory was sealed with Matthew carrying the ball over the line twice more and Sam finishing with a final well deserved try.
