OKEHAMPTON travelled to Exeter for their second league game on a hot day to face a young Exeter team.

The visitors were the stronger side but despite keeping good possession of the ball it was not until Alex Collins bundled the ball over the line for the first goal that Oke settled down to play some good hockey.

Wings Tilly Dixon (player of the match) and Zoe Curtis, fought hard all game for Oke, running backwards and forwards tirelessly to support in defence and attack. The combination of Tilly, Emma Wiseman and Alex Collins on the right flank was effective for the Columbines and a lot of the play was down that side.

Okehampton’s second goal came from a delightful piece of skill from Annebelle Rademaker who released the ball into the path of Alex Collins who slotted it neatly past the goalkeeper.

On the occasions when Exe did break through backs Anna Luxton, Holly Davidson and Sandy Douglas dealt calmly with the threatened attack. Goalkeeper, Lucy Wiseman, did not have much to do but she had to stay alert when a shot was made which she did admirably.

Exe nearly scored when their forward latched on to a through ball which Wiseman diverted but the ball skidded across the face of the goal and it took a magnificent clearance off the goal line from Emma to prevent Exe from scoring.

With a two goal cushion, Okehampton played with authority in the second half. Rochelle Wollacott was strong at centre back and linked up well with the forwards.

Annebelle Rademaker and Rachel Adams got themselves more involved in the match and were unlucky with several shots that were saved or went just wide of the goal.

Okehampton’s third goal came from Viv Weatherington after sustained pressure on the Exe goal and Annebelle sealed the win with a well-taken corner to give Okehampton a deserved 4-0 win.
