THE three Okehampton Running club members who travelled down to Cornwall for the Great Lanhydrock Run on Sunday came back feeling slightly short-changed.
This 10 mile off road race is run through the beautiful grounds of Lanhydrock House near Bodmin, largely on woodland tracks and is comprised of three separate loops, starting and finishing in front of the historic house.
The cold and windy weather did nothing to cheer the spirits of the runners or spectators, who it turned out, did not have to wait as long as expected to watch the runners cross the finish. Due to a marshalling and signing error all the runners failed to complete the third loop, coming back to the finish after only 7.3 miles.
Apologies were made by the organisers, and at least all the runners had completed the same route, but many were very disappointed knowing that a lot can change in the last three miles of a race.
The times were slightly irrelevant with the first ten runners being given the same time as the finish wasn't even set up.
First home for Okehampton was Andrew Vernon in 51.26, with Detlef Schoenfeld next in 1.02.36 and Jane Jackson in 1.04.55 to take third prize in her age group.
