Buckley Cup Belstone v Spreyton BELSTONE'S hopes of retaining the Buckley Cup took a knock when they suffered their third defeat of the season, going down by 44 runs at home to Spreyton. Ryan Dennis (4-0-21-1) and Dan Fogerty (4-1-16-3) opened the bowling well for the home team, picking up wickets and restricting Spreyton to 50-4 at the half-way ten over stage. But the remaining bowlers came under the cosh as the second ten overs leaked 100 runs and only one wicket, with Chilcott (30 retired), Jake Griffith (26 retired), Steve Wright (19 not out) and Chris Filor (25 not out) all cashing in with eight fours and three sixes between them. Belstone needed a good start to stand a chance of reaching the 151 required and they got it with an opening stand of 43 in six overs between Matt Dennis (19) and Scott Tremain (21). At half-way they were ahead of the Spreyton equivalent with 70 on the board but with the introduction of Brijnath (4-0-24-3) and Chilcott (3-0-12-2) the run rate fell and wickets began to tumble. Jimmy Ewen hit a quick 16 but Jake Griffith ran through the tail taking the last four wickets for just 11 runs.
