Exe ladies’ fifths 0
Okehampton ladies’ thirds 3
OKEHAMPTON ladies third team travelled to Exeter on a windy Saturday morning to play Exe 5. With the teams both lying mid-table this game had the potential to be a closely fought contest.
The visitors knew they had to play attacking hockey and not give Exe the space and time to play the ball.
From the starting whistle Oke pressed forward towards the home goal at every opportunity, keeping possession and forcing Exe to drop back and defend. The Exe goalkeeper cleared the ball well but Oke were ready to pounce on the rebounds with Sarah Bazeley cleverly getting in behind the keeper to score Oke’s first goal.
Their second goal came after joint player of the match Eleanor Marvin pressurised the Exe keeper with several strong shots and Sophie Mugliston was perfectly placed to slot a rebound into the back of the net.
Lucy Wiseman, also joint player of the match, linked well with Izzie Rowlands in attacking midfield to move the ball quickly and accurately to their forwards. It was the blistering speed of Annie Strawbridge who carried the ball from deep in the Oke half, slipping it past the Exe players and putting a pass in front of goal for Viv Weatherington to score Oke’s third.
Exe fought back determined to get on the score sheet but strong tackling from Emilia Bazeley and two crucial saves from the Oke keeper Ella Kaye gave Oke a clean sheet.
n Oke thirds next game is on Nov 4 at home to Sidmouth and Ottery fourth.
