AFTER last year’s inaugural ‘swim and run’ competition for the local primary schools, this year it was decided to hold an official aquathlon, which included a transition factor in between the swim and the run.
West Devon primary schools took part in this exciting and new event organised by OCRA,?Mount Kelly Prep and a handful of helpers.
Teams consisted of two girls and two boys who were timed from the start of their swim, through the transition period (putting on trainers and a T-shirt) to the end of their run.
Ten teams of Year 3 and 4 pupils went first with St Andrew’s team of Holly Connor, Annie Woock, Max Erasmus and Will Harvey taking the gold medal followed by Daisy Heal, Matilda Riggott, William Robinson and Samuel Burns of Mount Kelly Prep and Carla Morrison, Matilda Martin, Jack Martin and Tayden Williams of Whitchurch.
The top individual scorers were: 1, Matilda Riggott, 2, Daisy Heal and 3, Joel Lake of Tavistock Primary School.
Next up was the eight Year 5 and 6 teams who had a longer swim and run to complete.
Mount Kelly athletes Annabelle Hess, Amelia Riggott, James Lamb and Fritz Dietz won gold with St Peter’s team of Hannah and Charlotte Walker, Ewan Dix and Tom Brown picking up the silver and Krystina Cade, Amelia Aldred, Barney Hunt and Christopher Woolley of St Andrew’s receiving bronze.
Amelia Riggott was the highest individual scorer with James Lamb second and Annabelle Hess third.
