MARI Baldwin lived up to her top seeding as she won the Cadet Girls title at the Inter-regional Champion-ships.
The 13-year-old Okehampton College student was part of the South West region which competed against nine other teams from around the country at one of Table Tennis England’s flagship events.
She defeated team-mate Emily Haskell, also of Okehampton, in the final thanks to a 3-1 scoreline (11-3, 12-10, 7-11, 11-3).
It made up for her disappointment in the team event, in which the South West finished third.
‘I didn’t want to play my team-mate in the final, but that’s the way it goes sometimes,’ said Baldwin. ‘We’ve played each other so many times and we know each other’s games inside-out, plus we are friends.
‘I was a bit disappointed with how things turned out, finishing third in the team, so it’s good to win this.’
