Okehampton ladies’ seconds 0

Exe ladies’ thirds 6

ON a damp afternoon the game started well for Okehampton as they put pressure on the Exe defence, with forward Sophie Tripp making the first attempt on goal.

Oke had to react quickly though as Exe, who were third in the table, turned the game over quickly. After strong hassling in the middle from Oke’s Ellie Shayler the ball was slowed down, allowing defender Rachel Adams to step forward to take the ball and put Oke on the front foot again. However, a quick break from Exe gave them a short corner, allowing them to score the first of the game.

Oke carried on still determined and forward Annie Strawbridge used her speed to scare the Exe defence and apply pressure on their goalkeeper. Another break from Exe and another short meant that Exe lead the game 2-0. Okehampton did not drop their heads and kept the pressure on; with an excellent run into the D from Emma Wiseman Okehampton were awarded their first short corner but unfortunately for them the shot went wide. Despite Captain Anna Luxton putting everything on the line Exe lead the game 4-0 at half time.

Oke went into the second half with a new found focus with Lesley Bingham using her skills to pass the ball quickly up the pitch allowing forward Amy Taylor to take on a one on one with their keeper but the effort did not pay off.

Exe were back on the front foot despite keeper Alice Wiseman’s best efforts. Oke’s player of the match Jane Jones put in some outstanding work to keep the ball out of the net. After an excellent carry up the pitch from Sophie Mugliston Oke were back on the attack with another shot on goal.

Exe counter attacked quickly and despite Oke’s best efforts they lead the game 5-0. Okehampton continued the game with brave determination despite the weather conditions. Claire Grubb, continued to put up a great fight by continually chasing the ball back but Exe broke again, leaving Oke’s keeper vulnerable; despite this Emilia Bazley shocked the Exe attack by coming from behind to save their shot on the line. Unfortunately for Okehampton, Exe scored another just before full time.
