TAVISTOCK Run Project members Ben Neale, Jacob Thomas-Hegarty, Oliver Smart, Edward Smart and Emma Dooney travelled to Exeter last weekend to run the first race of the Exe Summer 5k series.
The course ran along footpaths and cycle tracks along the river before heading back to the playing fields.
Ben completed the race with a personal best coming first in a time of 15 minutes 59 seconds closely followed by Oliver coming seconnd overall in a time of 16mins and first in his age category. This result also means that Ollie is now ranked first in Britain in the male U15 age group for 5km. Edward, Ollie’s brother, came in shortly after in a time of 17.59 and great run from Jacob in a time of 18.15. Emma finished in a great time of 23.36 finishing third in her age category.
Following on from this success was the Tavy 13 on Sunday. A local half marathon around the scenic, but hilly country roads of Dartmoor.
The TRP team were out in force with eight members taking part, with the weather looking rather unsettled and a strong field of runners it was set to be in interesting race.
Ben Neale took the lead from the off and gradually increased his winning position all the way to the finish. This was an excellent result for Ben who clocked a speedy time of 1 hour 17 minutes 28 seconds. Next up to finish from TRP was Henry in a superb personal best time of 1.30.14 closely followed by Crispin Chambers 1.30.47. Not long after them, Steve Watson arrived on the home straight in a course PB of 1.31.51.
Rachael Malthouse ran a strong race to finish finish first female – another excellent result for her season. Next up was running couple James Armstrong and Jodi Fisk, coming back strongly from some nasty sports injuries and both finishing in a cracking time of 1.44.05. Also taking part and representing TRP was Chris Malthouse. Huge well done to all participants who took part in this tough half marathon!
Int Brighton, Sam Hortopp took on the challenge of Brighton marathon, a superb 26.2 miles around the sights of this coastal town. The sole representative of TRP at the race this year he put in an absolutely sterling effort to finish in a great time of 3.25.20.
