THE final league game before Christmas saw Okehampton at home to bottom of the league PGSOB A team.

With the league wide open this season this match was no given despite Okehampton’s fifth place position.

Oke began the game in the ascendancy putting pressure on the visiting side. Some excellent forward free flowing moves channelled through midfield trio Luke Liversidge, Nick Luxton and George Morgan created a number of scoring opportunities for the home side. Short corners came and went to no avail before Oke finally got the breakthrough when Timon Chapman picked up the ball on the left hand side of the D and cracked it into the back of the net.

This spurred PGSOB into life forcing the play back onto the home side; some missed tackles and slack clearances led to the away side finding themselves in an attacking position with men over and scoring the equalising goal. 

The first half was not over, however, and as the rain continued to pour, the home side pressed harder still. With five minutes to half time another short corner was won, the ball slipped to Luxton and his shot was deflected off the line by a defending players foot, leading to the awarding of a penalty flick; captain Liversidge stood up and unnervingly buried the ball into the corner of the goal.

With a 2-1 lead going into the second half Okehampton’s heads were high and with the possession being tossed to and fro between the teams the home side began to dominate.

Liversidge, sent a ball from inside Oke’s half to Watson lurking near the top of the D who neatly deflected the ball past the keeper. PGSOB won a short corner which was not converted but the following one was converted making it 3-2.

With 15 minutes to go Oke found themselves with an attacking overload and, with a bit of confusion in the D, Junior Bourne managed to find Chapman who scored his second goal by slotting a reverse shot over the keeper and the back board. 

The last few minutes of the game remained with Okehampton domination and ensured that the team sit well in the league over the Christmas break.
