THE Sticklepath Horseshoe Fell run had an international flavour this year with two competitors from Italy among the runners.

Unfortunately the weather on the high moor was far from continental with rain and strong headwinds.

In these conditions together with a total ascent of 1,700 feet this one was not for the faint hearted, but every competitor completed the course, although some added a few extra miles on the unmarked course which required self navigation.

Four members from the Okehampton Running Club took part with Adrian Kettle and Anne Binns taking on the race for the first time. Gavin Punchard had run this race for years and Marilyn Cooper in her fourth Horseshoe were taking part just two days after racing in the Exeter 10k. All credit to Anne for completing in the adverse conditions, in only her second fell race having never run off road before joining ORC.

The St Levans 10k near Penzance, Cornwall is billed as mainland Britain's most westerly race, and saw Stuart May running in his Okehampton Running Club colours for the first time. He completed the hilly course in 44 minutes 54 seconds.

Runners in the beautiful Jurassic 10k in East Devon with its stunning scenery had the added bonus of a sight of the Red Arrows as they flew over after their display at nearby Dawlish Air Show.

Marilyn Cooper completed the course in 52.20 and was second female veteran 55.

Tim Watson took part in the Bideford Triathlon, his third triathlon this year. The 600m swim route passed under the Old Bideford bridge twice, followed by a 23k bike ride and a 5k run along the Tarka trail. Tim completed in 1hr 25mins.

In September Tim is taking part in a charity cycle ride from John O'Groats to Land's End.

Mags Jarvis ran in the Peter Tavy Plod, a moorland race of about five miles with a climb. Mags completed the run in a time of 45.31.
