FIRE crews were called out to rescue a dog which had fallen 40ft down a mineshaft in Ford Wood near Sticklepath on Monday (November 6).

It took more than four hours to rescue the dog after crews were called out just before 11am.

One crew from Okehampton was joined by specialist rescue teams from Exeter and Barnstaple. They used a lowering system and lines to bring the dog up to ground level. It suffered minor injuries to its leg.
