POLICE forced entry in to a vehicle last Tuesday (July 25) by breaking a window after reports that a small child had been shut inside for over an hour with no ventilation.

Concerned members of the public alerted the police to the incident at 6pm next to St James’ Chapel, Fore Street, Okehampton.

The three-year-old inside was checked by ambulance staff and taken to hospital as a precaution. The mother was reported for child cruelty.

One Okehampton police spokesperson said: ‘This was brought to our attention by several concerned members of the public and I am very grateful to them.’
