THE mayor of Okehampton Cllr the Rev Mike Davies welcomed the mayor of Craon and visitors to the town last weekend as part of the latest town twinning visit over the bank holiday weekend.
Mayor Paul Chaineau led the group of visitors from the French town, twinned with Okehampton.
Around 40 visitors from France experienced life in Okehampton by staying with host families and went on day trips around the area during their stay, including to Escot Estate, a picnic and sports day at Okehampton College, and a ceilidh on Saturday evening.
As part of their trip, the group enjoyed a civic reception at the town hall, and were personally welcomed by Cllr the Rev Davies.
Speaking to the visitors, he said: 'Okehampton was twinned with your town of Craon in 1977 and the collective idea to build a greater understanding between our two towns was born, and has continued to grow since then. This morning we continue that relationship.
'It is a privilege, in my capacity of mayor of Okehampton, to be able to host you this morning in our town hall and I trust that through our conversations this morning with you, our guests, with some of your host families, and through members of this town council we will deepen our understanding and friendship.'
