AS a regular reader of the Okehampton Times, I value the wide scope of the information given to us. More recently, since the Devon Heartlands Community Forum has stopped meeting monthly in Okehampton, this newspaper provides a forum of its own in the letter page and Reflections column. From the tone of the letters (July 3) we can recognize a mood of distrust in our councils and national government. The Rev Stephen Cook encourages us all to value and appreciate those who run our affairs for the sake of a healthy community. However, I do not believe that respect for those in positions of responsibility means that we should not hold them to account whenever that is appropriate. Attention at the moment is on the proposed site for coaches at Mill Road car park. Those expressing concerns about the choice of site all have a common thread of common sense running through their comments. Time will tell where true wisdom lies. Let us hope that the 'accident waiting to happen' will not actually take place. However, hoping for the best while taking huge risks with the wellbeing of people is not being at all responsible.
