AMONG those receiving a Devon County Council's long service award next Wednesday will be a 'lollipop' lady from Hatherleigh.
Jacky Duncan, who has guided children from Hatherleigh Community School safely across the road for the past ten years, will be honoured at the annual long service award ceremony at Larkbeare House in Exeter, where she will be presented with a silver award.
For the first time, Institute Of Customer Service Qualification awards will be presented to two lollipop patrols and 16 others will receive their long service awards bronze, silver, gold, and diamond certificates and badges to mark their service ranging from five years to 20 years.
The patrols have 120 years' experience between them and most will attend to receive their awards from Devon County Council chairman John Rawlinson.
Cllr Rawlinson said: 'Our school crossing patrols perform a vital job in helping schoolchildren across Devon get to and from school safely, whatever the weather. Their loyalty can be seen in the amount of years clocked up by the award winners.'
